Meaningful Friendships Matter

I could type all night about friends and "friends". I don't have a lot of friends. I have a ton of acquaintances though. And you know what? That's okay. Not everyone can be your best friend and you won’t connect with each person you meet and that’s ok too. I'm fine with having a small core of people who I truly can count on. The picture above is just 4 of them (I have a few more, but that's the first picture that pulled up-lol). I'm a strong believer that I should be the friend to people that I want them to be to me. With that belief, I make time for them. I pull out my calendar and send a text to schedule a walking session, eating session or adventure session and I’m getting better. Being a mom of 4, a full time educator, and wife can sometimes crowd my life and time. Making time for me and the things I enjoy-my friends is a must for me. Balance is key to making sure you make time for everyone, including yourself. Do you have a core group of friends or that one friend you can count on? If not, here are some suggestions to meeting others..

1. Be yourself! You can fool people for a little while but eventually, they will see right through you.

2. Make the first step. You want to build a relationship with someone, but they haven’t called or reached out? You do it first. They may be busy just like you.

3. Be realistic. You won’t become BFFs overnight.

4. Be open. Your person might not want to do everything you want to do. Try different things.

5. Join social media groups. Sometimes a virtual friendship can be amazing.

6. Pray about it. “He who desires friends, must first show himself friendly.” Ask God to show you areas that may ward off friends and ask for him to send people your way.

Let 2022 be the year for you to really appreciate and deepen those meaningful relationships and open the door to find new ones.
